Girls Night Out: Every Woman Needs It

I know it’s to hang out, talking into the wee hours, being just friends, but ladies, ladies; we just don’t work that way. We bond through words. For the female mind, these late night are like verbal make-out sessions. ~ Amy E. Spiegel

On girls night in we talk about dating; the ups and downs of the previous week. Our collective laughter is uncontrollable and tearful, even the most disappointing dates become meritorious on girls night in. ~ Cilla Black

So, today, I had the opportunity to see the movie – Girls Trip (Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Tiffani Haddish). I must confess, this movie had me laughing so hard. And one of the reasons I found it hilarious was because I could relate with the characters in the movie. Almost all females have a click of friends, like an inner circle. Within this click, you have the cool-headed one, the party hard chick, the always responsible female, the funny gal who always knows how to brighten the mood, and the one who is the life of the party. Although the composition varies in each click, it’s pretty much a balance of different personalities coming together to balance each other in an intimate circle.

Let me tell you the benefits of having a girls night out- for starters, it gives you something to look forward to. Getting dressed, hanging with your girls, lots of chit-chat and letting your hair down. It’s an opportunity for you to just be a lady again and drop (only for a while) the responsibilities of being a career woman, a wife, a mother, a caregiver, a home-maker, a chef, and all the other hats we ladies wear on a daily basis. Hanging with the girls is like therapy. For those who have made girls night out a regular social occasion, you can definitely agree with me that it is a much-needed therapy session. As females we get so consumed and overwhelmed with our responsibilities, we sometimes forget to take “me time.” A night out with your friends leaves you feeling rejuvenated. You have more energy to accomplish more because you have DE-stressed.

Now, you have to be careful as girls night out is a contagious experience. It’s like Lay’s potato chips- bet you can’t have just one. If you have never experienced a girls night out, you’re overdue for one ASAP. Call you click, pick a date, you don’t even have to go out, it can happen right in your home (with your significant other locked in another room for the married folks as the conversation will get naughty). For you to have quality girls night out, you need friends who are not ashamed to “turn up!” Make it a date with your girlfriends and get rejuvenated. Then come back and post your “thank you” afterwards.
